Mountain Views Galore in Graubünden, Switzerland

If you are looking for the most impressive view in the Swiss Alps, you will most certainly find it in the canton of Graubünden at the summit of the Arosa Rothorn. This beautiful mountain is the highest of the Plessur Alps and located in eastern Switzerland.

I've ridden quite a few Gondolas in Switzerland and I've seen some very impressive views, but I have to say the Rothorn is my favorite and offers the most breathtaking vantage point of the alps. At the summit, there are thousands of peaks visible in all directions. You are surrounded on all sides with mountain after mountain with no end in sight. If you didn't know any better, you would think the mountain range goes on forever.

Riding the Gondola 

The starting point for the Gondola is in the mountain resort village of Lenzerheide. We parked our car in the lot and enjoyed a short walk along the lake, called the Igl Lai before heading to the Gondola station.

Next, we purchased our tickets and hopped on the Gondola, which stops at the Scharmoin middle station to board a larger more impressive Gondola to the Rothorn summit station. After a dizzying ride that seems to go almost vertical at the summit, we arrived to views galore. A short walk takes you past the restaurant to a viewing platform with 360-degree views.

Have Lunch at the Panoramic Restaurant Summit 

Make sure to stop for a meal or coffee at the restaurant and ask for a seat by the window. This was absolutely the BEST VIEW I have ever had while enjoying lunch! The restaurant is perched on top with the restaurant hanging off the side of the mountain a bit. Our meal was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to go back!
